Why the Pro Tour didnt work... and why the UCI is on crack
The Pro Tour concept was great... it didnt work cuz the UCI forgot that they didnt actually own anything (a race or a team) and that they were in fact just a bunch of refs... the NBA and NFL work because they are run cooperatively by the stakeholders- NOT BY THE REFS!!!... the UCI is on crack... just officiate the races and keep your heads down... you guys are idiots...

Oniel tests positive...
read about it in cyclingnews...
what i want to know is why a healthy skinny guy is taking phentermine!.. and what doctor would prescribe it to him?!... its pretty bad that the doctor didnt say "dude... you need a psychiatrist..."
its gone a little far when you are taking addictive weight loss drugs... things are out of whack when this is the state you are in and i hope that he uses the 2 years off to get his mind right and beat his eating disorder which he must have...
i can say for sure that i developed a nice case of exercise bulimia (not the purging kind) when i was racing in europe... its not fun... and for me it was a signal that things were a bit out of hand... it started by just trying to lose some weight... you log your training and meals...and then you are counting calories and then you are feeling guilty about eating... and you cant stop the numbers in your head... you see a plate of food and you can say how many calories it is just be looking... and then you keep in your head a running tally of your caloric intake during the day, and you archive the days and weeks like on your outlook e mails... and yes, your mental DB is searchable... its a mind-fuck man... when your shit is stressed out you just get into these little traps and it sucks...
a lot of bikers have these little issues... there is a lot of pressure and it makes you a bit crazy at times...
its hard for me, on the face of it, to feel that this isnt an abuse of this prescription drug... thats the real thing, that we have a guy that needs some help, but people probably wont see that or feel that way... and people probably wont be supportive or empathetic...

i have decided to come back...
now that i have achieved a good balance in my post biking life i can return to blogging with a clear perspective and less mental clutter and without the feeling that there are ten other things that i should be doing rather than blogging stuff...

Raleigh NRC
as soon as i got this from Duncan I told him he needed to be slightly more descriptive..
he got 6th by making the break that lapped the field... its our best result of the year... for our team its a huge deal to make to top ten in an nrc... and we did it in a breakaway too... duncan was a cat 3 last year...
so here is what he had to say about the best result of his life:
Friday night was the first race of this week-long race trip. We were all excited about the race because we just got a couple new teammates. The Raleigh Downtown Criterium is especially exciting for me because I live in Raleigh most of the year and it’s always nice to see people you know at the race and hear your name.
The team worked together well for the first time in an NRC race. We’ve really started to translate the fundamentals that we learned in early in the season in local races to these bigger ones. We were represented in most of the breaks of the night and everyone was riding aggressively. I ended up in the six-man break that would lap the field, which gave me my best result so far.
The level of communication and teamwork was impressive, at least for me. We didn’t use radios, but everyone still seemed relatively organized in the 85ish man field. When the break made it to the back of the field, Jered was waiting to bring me back up to the front and during the closing laps he, Chris, and one of our new riders Eric Bennett helped me out and kept themselves in good position for the finish.
The racing was pretty fast, but it still took us nearly two hours to complete the 80 laps. We finished the race pretty well. Jered helped keep the pace high and Tiago, Chris, and Eric finished in the top 20. Not a bad way to start our road trip. Hopefully we can keep working together and more good results.

GPS
i ordered a treo 680.. i had a htc windows 5 phone but i got sick of how bad it sucked and how windows mail sucks... i had a 650 before and i rode it till the wheels fell off and then got the windows htc phone... a cingular 8125...
so now i am back with a treo and i am going to use chatter mail... i would have stuck with windows if chatter would have made a push-pull e mail client for windows but they have apparently vowed never to do this... some push emails are ok... but i use fastmail.fm that has a buch of cool features in imap that arent workable with 7 or good or xpress mail... plus i have a million e mail acounts as well....
anyway.. i got thinking about gps since i was shopping for a new car and i wanted it to have nav... but its a 2500 dollar option in most cars so i thought twice about it since i wont use it all the time and the only ones that have input methods that dont piss me off are bmw and audi (both of which i decided not to buy)... but even those ones were sort of stupid in their way... once you are used to using mapquest for directions all these car nav things are no real good...i got a volvo s40 t5...
i remebered gps nav for treos from a while back and i looked into it more... now they have a tomtom hook up for pda that costs about 200-300 bucks with a rechargable bluetooth gps chipset and then you see the directions on your phone while you drive... this is kind of the same as what you could get in a dedicated unit like tomtom one or garmin nuvi 200 something... so i think maybe it a lot of hassle to have a pda gps thingy...
i got a garmin nuvi 300 and i set it up in the parlking lot of best buy and then i let it guide me home... right off i was pissed because the touch screen soft keys arent a qwerty keyboard, they are a-z... so couldnt even hardly spell my own street... it actually found me a quicker way home, but the voice was annoying and it just said "turn left in .25 miles" or "turn right in 1 mile" without naming the streets... so i turned around half way home and returned it...
to get the street names you will have to pay 500 bucks or so and then it does a bunch of crap i dont need it to do and it sits there looking stupid on my dash all day...
the volvo nav comes up out of the dash and then goes away if you dont need it... maybe i should have gotten it.. but the input method is dumb...
so i am thinking that maybe the pda gig is a good way to go... because its the same as everything else for the money and i can just type in what i want to put in there on a qwerty keyboard and not have to do softkeys (which i hate, another reason to ditch the 8125)or the lame predective text/select a city from the list... i wonder though how it will work with the bluetooth in the car for the phone... will it interfere?... will it play directions to my stereo?... do i have to get also an fm modulator?...
i think i will order one and find out... tomtom has one and palm has one and they seem to be the same damned thing... but the palm casing for the gps chip is better looking...
more later...

so that means i will have a few extra minutes in the day to do my blog...
i need to tell jmurder and slover...
and nadboy...
maybe now that chrysler is sold they will make a cool car...

New news
We are a week out on the official team launch... Waiting for the photos from the photographers...
I passed my realestate exam so I am set to get into that... We have a small brokerage that I will be with... I am thinking that as a way to raise money for cyclesafe.org and the team to donate half the proceeds of my commissions to the organization if people are interested and they have properties to sell or need buyer representation or leases negotiated...
That will be posted to the cyclesafe.org site when we get set to handle that...

dont despair
the team website will launch on the 22nd...
and i will have a cyclingnews diary... all of my limited time will be put into these things sonce i think that they are of much more value than this site where nothing really happens anymore...
the cyclingnews thing is going to be good because it will be all about the team and the riders... so you will get an insode view of all aspects of running a team and managing riders... i want it to be like a reality tv show where you get to really see what its like to do a team and try to do it well... if for no other reason than to discourage people from doing a team themselves... because it anint as easy as it looks...

my first inclination is always to give a big F-U...
and with respect to discovery team it stands that way still... i hope they are ostracised big time... it would make me laugh all year long... but i dont believe that the other teams will have enough balls to keep speaking strongly about it... it looks bad for the sport to have the best team sign up a guy who is in the middle of a thing.. for the moment he is ok... but its possible that he could get wrapped right back up in all this as soon as the spaniards are finished with their business... when the puerto case is over all the eveidence becomes a matter of public record things will get messy for some riders... its a big risk but i dont think that disocery team would take it if they werent 99 percent sure that nothing would come of it ever for basso... even if they were thinking that 80 percent something happens but their lawyers are good enough to spin it out and make it go away then thats bad for the sport though... will organizers exclude this team based on this ethical ideal that they have where "tainted" riders are concerened?.. i dont know... i bet everybody folds and life goes on... does the public care enough to think less of an event because basso is not in it?... no.. i dont think so... for sure people are sick to death of ulrich.. but basso not so much after the first part of 07.. which is good... it will cool down for him and landis... but for 07 i dont see people giving a shit to see them race... but they can be ok in 08... people just need some time to forget... but i can say that if basso wins a bunch of races people will not be so excited by it... but then if he keeps winning then it will flip over for him and then people will just like him again because he is a winner after all... even though the public in general will find sports more and more dishonest across the board...

i two times dropped my new range hood while i was installing it and dented the shit out of it...
now its a reminder of how stupid i am... and how unimportant home appliances are... photo soon...
i am dissapointed with the quality of dry cleaners in this town...
every shirt i get back is all jacked up in the sleeves... they never take care to do the pleats right and there is a crease always clear up the sleeve... they dont know how the hell to press a shirt...
once you have a dry cleaner that doesnt fuck up your sleeves when they press your shirt you will be so happy... until you have to get a shirt back that you have to iron after you already paid to have it pressed...
