Erik, Berkeley hills sucks. Your a good candidate for working with promoters on improving their races. Berkeley hills has started at 7:30 am since the beginning of time. You should contact the promoter and suggest a much more reasonable race time for a pro event!!
I disagree, Berkeley Hills is a great race, and I'm surprised they can still hold it, considering how little support they get from the local cops regarding the Dam Road. They have to start at 7:30 to avoid traffic. Although I have to say, having my tire blow out because of all the crap on the road when I was in the lead group really sucked. Speaking of Larkin, he materialized in our group without apparently ever bridging. Amazing.
i did think it sucked.. buts thats because i was feeling so bad and it was raining and i left my lights on and the keys in the ignition with the radio on and had to get a jump...
i am normally on top of things but when i get tired and i am late for something (like a 7:30am start) i start doing really stupid stuff...
but i did think it was crazy that the race existed at all on those roads.. they were really nice major roads in the area...
I personally rather wake up that early and drive somewhere where a promoter can hold a reasonable event with a reasonable start time. If the community doesn't support the race then maybe its time to stop having it and find a different venue where there is a supporting community. Then guys like erik wouldn't be so dangerously tired. If you can't forget to take your keys out of your car you shouldn't be driving at all...hazard!
