i am telling you...

i should be the director of a womens team... if i could get a few decent women who have never been in a "big" team i swear we could be one of the top three teams in the US... there is so much talent out there with no direction... all they need is to have someone that can wrap things up and get everyone racing properly... now, yeah.. the best girls are hard to beat, but it can happen that a team of nobodies can rise up and be good... especially in the women... it seems so wide open... some team should hire me and pay me a lot of money...

erik i am just curious what prompted you to come to this conclusion. i am not challenging you at all, you may have a good point, i just want more backup. was it something about the weekend's/recent races, or a general building opinion? we have smaller fields and less support than you guys do, but there are some girls who are not on t-mobile or quark or webcor who are getting it together, and who are relatively new on the scene.
anyway i am just wondering about the basis for your perspective.
thanks!
p.s. unfortunately i do not have a million dollars to give you in exchange for this perspective, sorry.

This is already happening to some degree. Check out the BMW Bianchi (East Coast) team they seem poised to take a big win at some point (as do some other teams). They don't have a million dollar budget. If you don't wanna race in Philli they would most likly let you DS (I know a few of em).

E-rok,
DOn't bother with that BMW-Bianchi team... For the most part they suck, but like last year (when they were Duke SPorts Med/Spin Cycle), they will actualy pimp out some of their own racers and become a composite team for Liberty classic, just so that they can get a result... Wow, we are impressed. I think only one person from their actual roster actualy finished last year (Lozano-she's good). All the rest including Weislo, their fearless leader got pospped in the first two laps.

i say that because in talking to a lot of the women it seems like they are in the races with no aims or goals.. and they dont have any confidence... i see a lot of girls that look really easy in the hard parts but they never attack!... and i almost never see them helping each other.. there just is a major lack of simple fundementals in the womens field- among good riders who are strong...

but i have heard a lot about how hard it is for women to get along and how its really difficult to direct them... from other women i have heard this, not men...

its really just a hunch though...

se cat1 Chad Gibson, what about a 4th place at Joe Martin?
That doesn't suck too bad.
We'll see what happens at Phili this year.

Did something happen in Philly for the BMW-Bianchi team? How did their guest rider Shannon Hutcinson do? How about Lozano?

O.K.. Let's be honest with yourself here..First, there is no way you could put together a womens team that could be one of the top three, even in the US. Quark, Webcor and T-Mobile pretty much have that covered. Secondly, you'd have to find a team that has a big enough budget to pay women to defect from the above mentioned teams and to pay you. Probably not an easy feat when you jump back into reality and realize the lack of funding for women's cycling teams. Yes, there are plenty of outstanding women cyclists out there who are a bit intimidated in a pack and need some guidence and direction. You have to give BMW-Bianchi credit for being a good regional team but they are not of the same "stock" as any the top 10 women's teams. Subway and Diet Cheerwine are really the "new" teams to give the credit to. They have outstanding riders, limited budgets, both managers working as directors and mothers and they are trying to give these women a chance to suceed, get noticed and provide a future for women and the sport of cycling. Putting riders on a team who have never ridden together before and who are relatively new to the sport has got to be difficult. Both of these teams have been and are currently in the top 10 in the US and that in and of itself is more than impressive. Every team needs time to get to know each other and themselves.. they need to learn to really "work together" and both of these new teams have had their growing pains. Subway and Diet Cheerwine are coming together beautifully as teams and sometimes the world just needs to have a little patience. I am sure either one of these teams and their managers would be honored to have you as a team director but my guess would be that you would have to do it just for the love of the game...

Subway and Diet Cheerwine hardly have limited budgets. Cheerwind and BMW are on the same level with skill sets and the fact that all their riders have full time jobs. BMW rep is that they work really well together - with a bigger budget and some more support they could race on a national level - thats the goal of the team. In reality all the teams mentioned have good potential lets hope they do something with it.

BMW in philly - hugh crash on the firts lap took down 4 of the riders including Lozano. 3 finished 2 in the money.

This is not a forum about BMW-Bianchi and they are not the kind of team the original post was making reference to(see se-cat1). I think Mr. Saunders is talking about elite riders not average riders and that is what this is all about.

Erik, maybe you could help out the premier men's amateur team in the southeast while you're at it. That Manulife team is just ripping it.
