That's the one you pay $20k to be on, instead of the normal 10. You get a big red $ on your chest...

This is a new division 2 Team with a new twist. Is that if they do not get a title sponsor this year. The riders will
pony up $40.000 of there own money for the first year and hopefully they will get a title sponsor for 2007 and sell the team to the sponsor and make there money back and then some.... It sound like they have everything but big money.. I heard this different ways from H and this is the take on the team.. I hope this make sense.. What's funny is that the Super Subway Team has three stars-and-stripes jerseys

i wish them luck... it would be nice if it flew... but a bummer if you counted on that 40k they begged back from you to operate the team...

i am still waiting on this one... i am not ready to say its unworkable... but it is getting more interesting all the time... i think the idea has some merit even though this is a bigger set back than they would like to have to endure...

It's hard to envision a cycling team as an investment motto.
You'd have to assemble just the right bunch of people who have enough chops on the bike to win a few, and the right business acumen to (over) self-promote in a saavy enough way to sell it at the end of the year and recoup some pretty serious capital. At $40k a pop I'd say turning a profit is pretty slim.

Personally I never invest in rainmakers.

It took me a couple extra seconds to realize that this also poses an interesting moral rorschach test:

Would you be more pissed by a teamate who couldn't pull thier weight on the bike and cost you a win (even, say, a big one like nat's) or at a teamate who's a crappy salesman and cost you $15,000 in funds at the end of the year?

So how the hell would a top racer whos working class come up with $40,000 to buy his way onto a pro team?

Slover keeps emailing me about racing on his team.

As part of the spectacular sponsorship, I'll get to buy a team kit at nearly 10% off retail, and have access to a near pro deal for an unheard off new road bicycle brand, which will be virtually unsellable at the end of the season. Also, all sponsorship money will go to the U23 kids, whos parents pay a fortune to their coach/ team director. Also, I will be required to work for the priveledged U23 kids at all races. At the end of the season, I will be eligible for a possible tire re-imbursement program, for up to 2 semi-new sets of top of the line michelin wire bead tires. In addition, all race earning will got to the U23 travel fund, designed to subsidize the cost of cycling for their parents. This will be tax deductible.

$40,000 would be a nice budget to go it as a privateer!

Watch this, it's great:

Hey Nicholas, I'm still waiting for your $40.000 "MONEY ORDER" To my Swiss Investment Banking Account I will e-mail the number....Then your on the TEAM.. "U23" what the shit is that? I don't give a shit about U23 and under!! USAcycling does not, So why should I... All the money goes to the D1 PRO 35+ MASTER TEAM!! Master racing is were it's at. We have the nice cars, nice bikes. And all the winnings go to our kids college fund. And this my friends will be tax deductible...

...and he has a blog.

Zook, on the other hand, has only one sign of dorkitude; having the word "cyclist" in his email address. This is bad enough for someone who rides, but for someone who quit years ago, it is really above and beyond.

Masters racing... pshh. U23 racing... pshh.

All the real racing is in the category 2. I just can't figure out why no one will pay us salaries.

"As a top category 2 bicycle racer, you could be making anywhere from ten to fifty dollars per weekend."
