Oniel tests positive...

read about it in cyclingnews...

what i want to know is why a healthy skinny guy is taking phentermine!.. and what doctor would prescribe it to him?!... its pretty bad that the doctor didnt say "dude... you need a psychiatrist..."

its gone a little far when you are taking addictive weight loss drugs... things are out of whack when this is the state you are in and i hope that he uses the 2 years off to get his mind right and beat his eating disorder which he must have...

i can say for sure that i developed a nice case of exercise bulimia (not the purging kind) when i was racing in europe... its not fun... and for me it was a signal that things were a bit out of hand... it started by just trying to lose some weight... you log your training and meals...and then you are counting calories and then you are feeling guilty about eating... and you cant stop the numbers in your head... you see a plate of food and you can say how many calories it is just be looking... and then you keep in your head a running tally of your caloric intake during the day, and you archive the days and weeks like on your outlook e mails... and yes, your mental DB is searchable... its a mind-fuck man... when your shit is stressed out you just get into these little traps and it sucks...

a lot of bikers have these little issues... there is a lot of pressure and it makes you a bit crazy at times...

its hard for me, on the face of it, to feel that this isnt an abuse of this prescription drug... thats the real thing, that we have a guy that needs some help, but people probably wont see that or feel that way... and people probably wont be supportive or empathetic...

Smells like Carl Lewis and ephedrine.

The drug is a masking agent, he doesn't have a eating disorder. He's taking that to cover up the real performance enhancing drug that he's taking.

Erik,

Right or wrong, I had the same first impression as you. Masking agent? Maybe. Then again, maybe just looking at job security. We all have a little bit of a screw loose, just to suffer enough to try to race at a high level, even as elite amateurs. It is a difference of degree, rather than kind, between reasonable performance-conscious diet management vs. an eating disorder. I'm all race-brained so that last sentence probably sucks a little but....I dunno. Diet pills? Hard to believe simple speed is really all that useful as a performance enhancer.

Or maybe he's dirty....Still, hard not to feel like maybe the tail is wagging the dog, here.

oh, i have no doubt at all that he is cheating... seriously... its questionable that he should have a prescription for this drug... if you are taking drugs to stay light to go fast, then thats doping... simple...

but it doesnt change that fact that the whole thing is a big mind fuck...

i feel like he was probably doing it to stay thin (i know of other guys who do it / have done it as well) maybe its a masking agent for things... but firstly its a powerfully effective stimulant and appetite suppressant... that alone is reason enough to take it... even with all of the well known risks of phentermine addiction apparently...

Phen phen is used as a masking agent by lifters/muscle heads, with similar effects to what Delgado got caught using back in the day.

I think hes cheating also, no doubt but ONiel has a history of serious eating disorders from back in his day at the AIS (i think). He was sick with it then and had to take a break totally from cycling. Just sayin...
