It was one of the funniest things ive ever seen. The whole team standing outside in cold ass NY weather, in there little shorts and jersey's. And they mentioned their sponser every two seconds like programed machines. ESPN was acting like they were the new Postal, dont they know about Discovery, guess not. But much props to the team for getting on TV though.

Their tops are too close to the US Nat Champion's jersey, IM(notso)HO.

Yeah, the jersey's are too uhh..."American".

It blew. The announcers were typical, got it all wrong, said with any luck, they would be bringing home win #8 at the TdF this year for Americans, and the TV screen read "US National Cycling Team."

I agree with steve in atl. Can someone tell me when Sean Tucker raced for and who did he race for? More than on story on the team has mentioned him as a former professional racer.

Kind of bush league if you ask me. "United" bikes? Think they get free bike vouchers with those?

Not saying that I did, but if you were to hack the site you'd see a suspicious velonews article and a few established directories but nothing set up other than a cgi bin...

"...a former independant professional cyclist."

My guess would be living off of race money in his paren'ts basement when he was 18 god know how many years ago...
(not like I'm trying to say I'm better. Hell, my mom still dresses me.)

my only critisism is that the name "united" is very generic and lacking in vision and excitement for the name of such an ambitious organization (a well as the kits)...

they should name it something like "arsenal"... california arsenal...

i hate them all, there is not one person on that team i like. but, i hate everybody...

I missed the independent part, thanks. Any results? I only ask because Velonews mentions it a couple of times and I've read it elsewhere. It seems like he wants everyone to know that he used to ride a bike too.

Their vision is as original as their naem and kits. There results will be equally bush league, as there are too many chiefs and not enough indians...who's gonna do the work in the trenches while everyone's chanting 'work for me, work for me.'

the mls already has a monopoly on ripping off the premier league names.

at the pro level where guys have been doing it for a long time that doesnt really exist like that where the guys fight like cat 3's over who gets to be the "team leader"... you get paid to do your job and there is enough room for everyone to have their chance.. but more importantly they dont all expect to win all the time and to win the big races all of your indians have to have cheifly qualities as well...

healthnet last year is a good example.. and now there are 2 teams that have that kind of depth.. so its going to be a good thing for the level...

I'm confused. A lot of you seem hell-bent on diminishing Sean Tucker and everything about TUC (or whatever the hell they're called). Whatever the guy's story, he has managed to pull in a MAJOR sponsor who has never had anything to do with cycling -- totally new corporate $$. The guy's vision may or may not work out, but he's already started out by doing a good thing.

Besides, what's the worst that can happen? They overspend, sign too much talent and top cutting paychecks... hey wait! Wasn't there another team sponsored by a car company a few years back that did that?

Oh, don't get me wrong at all... it could be argued that someone who's tasted a bit of pro and then reached success in a capatalist venture might be able to bring an innovative (invigorating) new level of zeal and enthusiam to the sport.
If this guy was and "independant pro" he knows just what hungry is.
That thought certainly has occurred to me.

For me, it's still too early to tell one way or another.

I'm not trying to diminish what he is doing. I think it's great that he has brought a new sponsor into the sport although I don't think the idea of him owning the team is super innovative. Tailwind Sports owns the team independent of their sponsor and Tom Schuler has also done this in the past.
I'm not trying to diminish what he is doing by questioning his background it's just that I've been around a while and hadn't heard of him as a rider but that doesn't really mean a whole lot. Reading everywhere that he was a "pro" or "independent pro" reminds me of when Vanilla Ice lied about being a gangster to establish some street cred.

RE: Vanilla Ice.

Great analogy...
Yeah, we'll see how this one shakes out.
