this is my list of best races in 05... not in order...
red bull road rage- treated athletes like they should be treated... take media seriously... pro production effort.. course safety
superweek- provides a series for young riders to get a lot of quality racing in and prove themselves against a good pro field.. great competition... nice spectators...
nature valley- actively seeks input and criticism from cycling experts (the riders, imagine that!)... great courses.. always looking to change for the better and have a nice race that the athletes enjoy...
captech classic- pro organiztion... media smart... dedicated harworking organizers... works with the city very closely... willing to try different things...
charlotte- its got a lot of money (not if you are a golfer though)...
t-town- i think i might have to make it back there...
all races in the mid atlantic in the summer- you can seriously make a bit of money if you are a good young rider... its good hard racing to cut your teeth on and see what kind of level you really have.. the locals are good.. then there are always a few extra regional stand-outs.. and then you will always get a few good pros that time of the year... if you are a young cat 1 and you are killing it at races like park ridge or mt holly or faulkner honda then you are a good bike rider...
RACES I ALSO LIKED A LOT IN 05...
sommerville
cats hill
sea otter
hanes park
giro di SF
Tour of Connecticut

Erik -
If you like a pro-treatment race - come to the Saturn Rochester Twilight Crit in June. We'd love to have you and your teammates!
check out the site: www.rochestercrit.com

No Univest? Very professionally run- J. Eustice does a great job. Supposed to be for amatuers but he lets in some D3 teams now and they got their asses handed to them this year by a guy who never leaves NYC. Ask 'ten men', he was there. You'd like that race, Erik.
erik,
i was listening to NPR last night. the governor of indiana was talking about toughening standards for mobile homes (in the wake of the tornado that hit a few parks and killed mad dudes).
"when you see the randomness of an event like this, you have to reckon with the fact that we cannot expunge every vestige of bad luck from life"
well said.
I have had some good times at the Ontario Crit.
Like the one time we raced at the Beach in the morning, then hauled ass out to the ontaRIO Speedwagon and it was a 117 in the shade at the start.
I think E-rok doubled up that day too. In fact, (and I'm really testing my memory now) I think this was the time that Bausch, Erik and Hilton were in the break, and Hilton chased down Bausch 'cause he wanted to win twice in one day.
Could be wrong on that.

Was that the time when Ray Moreno was standing at registration bending riders over, and sticking it to them, while his wife watched? Just tring to get the facts straight.
Ummm, yeah, same day! How did you know?? Actually, I have never had a problem with Ray. Yeah, he pays out practically nothing for a series that fills most of the categories, but we have a choice to show up or not and people keep showing up.
i do like univest... but i didnt do it this year.. so it wasnt on the list.. its only races i did this year...
i dont really go to those too much... but i would go if i lived closer.. i have said it before... i am just as happy to show up and ride hard in local parking lot crits like ontario... they are good fun...
"just as happy", really?

I am confused by the midatlantic part? A good young rider can make money?
I live just a hop, skip, and jump from VA, but I never go up there because the BAR series blows and the payout is crap.... P,1,2 races with $30 entry and pay $300-$500 10-15 deep? WTF is that?
The only exception I can think of in VA is that Norfolk race, Conte's crit.. That one is good... But then again it is on a weekend where the sat race (noel wick) pays crap and has a high entry fee...
due to the BAR...
Maybe it is different in DC, MD, etc.... But I have done the tour of christiana in PA, some races in MD, and VA.... All tose races had really bad $$
Peolpe come and race for points instead of cash... What's up with that? I can't eat points...
Big ups on the Nature Valley GP. I am sure it was cause you had your own personal fan section and t-shirts!
confused cat 1,
The Tour de Christiana had horrible money?...
$2000 just for the crit
Just man up, and win some money
I should have said bad money in 04
just an overall suck-fest
I didn't even bother looking into it in 05
Good TT course, tho... fun and euro styllllleee
twisty farm roads and cow shit galore
I thought Univest was on the right coast!
Melito did some serious whuppin' on D3s this year-- makes dying on his wheel in crosswinds at Floyd a lot less embarassing. I heard Alex Lavalle won Univest once upon a time too. I wonder what the hell happened to that podium? Biggest douche Univest winner: Herriott, easy; no "pro" to my knowledge bitches sooooooooooo much about Cat 1s & 2s he can't drop. Just shut the fuck up and race SMART, dude. Thanks for listening. (Billy stirring up NYC memories.)
Maurice de Meur
CapTech all the way, baby! Gets better year after year; bigger sponsors, 2 years broadcast on Fox Sports, ever burgeoning crowds. Gonna be the premier East Coast crit. Where else ya gonna get to race over cobbles in America? Now if we can just get Gaggioli to stop showing up for the rollout and his token 3 laps we'll be okay fine.....
I met that dumb fuck that works for wes, what a fuckin idiot.
Cats Hill, nice....bbq next year post race in the the LG (los gatos) at chez moi....
So you puss out one lap into Berkley Hills RR and you still think that mid atlantic is tough? There is no racing like NorCal racing. I have done Pro races easier than the typical VeloPromo Road Race.
No respect for the hilly portion of the LeftCoast.
