USA Cycling has announced that the 2006 US professional championships will take place in Greenville, South Carolina with the road race on September 2, 2006 and a time trial on August 31. The 2006 races will be restricted to US citizens who must be members of UCI-registered trade teams. The move is a departure from the championships' traditional venue of Philadelphia where it has been held since its inception in 1985.
yeah... thats nice.. i dont particularly care... they just really need to have a race and call it the championships and give a jersy to the winner.. its nice to have no foreigners finally... it would have been cool to have the race in a major market, but hey... nobody probably bid from a major market.. and i bet there is no on-going effort to cozy up to officials and sponsors in major markets, so then... what can you do?...

richmond sports backers put in a bid too, too bad for eriks sake it did not get picked. of course, if erik has no team next year it wont really matter
yeah. they did put in a bid... it would have been cool to have it in RVA... they seriously get behind their stuff and they really want to have moajor events of all types in the city...
I think they SHOULD have USPro in winston. At dixie classic fairgrounds. Hamblen would win and drew could yell at everyone not to sprint out of the final corner cause it's too danger will robinson
eric, have you talked to any amateur teams for next year?
new pro team: stolenunderground
lookin for fly riders...
so what does having the pro TT do to Elite TT at Nationals? is there now 2 tt jerseys? elite and pro?
enquiring minds....
yeah like the crit and road race gaywad
WTF?
Team Stolenunderground.com
In the latest chapter in the saga of former pro turned anti-doping crusader Matt DeCanio, word is that the former Prime Alliance man has put together a team for 2006.
"Team Stolenunderground.com, headed by former professional Matt DeCanio, will compete in road cycling events and national championships in 2006," DeCanio wrote in a press release. "Team members will include Giancarlo Bianchi, Nick Weise, Yair Shalev, Matt DeCanio, Ryan Sickles, and Ian Delaney. The team will have three main missions for 2006: Number one, to promote drug free racing. The team's message of "Anti-doping racing" will appear on the jersey and team vehicles. Number two, to win national titles. Number three, to raise awareness of doping in the sport of cycling."
No word yet on the team's schedule, category status or sponsors, but the stolenunderground.com Web site is as entertaining as ever. We shall see...
...."he's BACK"......
get out the straight jacket, "Deca-nuts"
is back!
I am sure DiCanio's heart is in the right place, but the boy is crazy as a shit-house rat. nut-so
TRUE nm... now, GET BENT panzie!
opps.. sorry.
What the hell is up this comment? "Fun fact: Did you know that before he started cycling, Alexi Grewal was addicted to drugs and alcohol?"
man that is messed up. That is personal shit there. If you think he is a performance enhancing doper, that is one thing... but if you think a past history of substance abuse is an indicator of future proclivity to dope in sport, you are a moron. I would guess that recovering addicts are LESS likely to be dopers...
My .02
hey zamudio.. i race for the money... if ana amateur teams wants to pay me thats fine... i would do it...
good on matt... maybe i can be on his team...
How much $ for 2006 am/payed program? I might make an offer. Or just place yourself on ebay and we can all bid.

for $15,000 plus expenses i would race regionally with no expectations and i pick my own schedule... and i would be a rider/coach for your younger riders and teach them something about bike racing so they know how to ride a bike when they get in a pro team and dont have to take 4 years as a pro before they understand what the hell is going on...
its a good deal, you should take it...

Do I hear $10??
That was joke, but Erik would be a good deal.
$15K and you pick your own schedule? Hmmm. Seems steep. What access level/time commitment does the above grant us, coaching and general appearance? We need room for some schedule selection for our key races, and I need blogging rights to ES.com.
RVD
What you wanna do is get 15 young riders to pay 1K each.
Easy enough.
RB
Careful with the "plus expenses" clause...
Which expenses?
Travel? Mortgage? Car payments? Kangol hats and Armani tracksuits?
You know basic expenses... the 3 h's:
Hookers, haircuts, and hi-tops.
If you were a real rockstar you'd grow out a mullet and replace "haircuts" with "heroin". (or hairspray, for Bon Jovi)
well i was trying to avoid doping.
rb
well ok.. you can blog... and we can fix a schedule that includes your most important races... but not more than one trip of more than 4 days.. not to exceed 10 days...
for part-time pay i do part time work... i am not gonna go all over creation racing every race on the NRC...
ok?...
Negotiations on the blog... you gotta love it!!
RB
You know, you could fill in the rest of the time at home depot giving lectures/seminars on doors.
(opportunistic, sorry to jump on the "tease Erik about the doors" bandwagon)
you are right.. i know how to frame doors!...
"you know with some guys, it's like they are on scooby-doo and have a skeleton key... cause you lock the door, bolt it, and they still get through".
rb
Christ,
The three of us really DO need to get back to work.
(Damn you pros with your "off-seasons"!)
thats good man.. so good...
$15,000 and pick your own schedule. Damn, I think that's dreamland?! If someone was paying me $15k to race a bike I think they'd have a lot of say in what races they'd want me to be at to get them the best sponsor exposure. $15k is nice if a team is paying for your equipment, clothing, travel costs, entries, and product from sponsors such as nutritional products.
15k is nice to get as long as somebody doesnt think they own you and expect you to spend 6 months on the road...
think about it... its nice if you get to still have a reason to train and you still get to race... you work on passing your knowledge to a younger generation and you get to go do races that suit you... and you stay regional to develop the team and do races they can actually win... and you still have time to spend with your family and you dont have to be gone 4 out of 7 days of the week from march to september... and you still have time to work at starting a business in realestate... its a good deal...
dream land is the place where people offer you 15k and think you should train 30hr weeks and go to every race on the national calendar and drive around the nation for 3-4 weeks 3 or 4 times in the year.. oh yeah, and ream your ass out when you dont win, or miss a break... thats dream land... i have never really been there myself, but i know some people who have and it SUCKS!...
oh...
i dont complain about free stuff...
so are you going to hire me or what?...
its a good deal for you, you should take it...

Gaywad? That is AWESOME! Does my ma wear combat boots to?
no, but your sister is ugly and my dad can kick your dad's ass.. plus it's still a dumb question
dumb? I don't think so, maybe not well thought out, but not dumb.
"dumb" would be something like....oh...i don't know...posting things to a site and not signing a name....
Or giving a shit about what someone you don't even know says in the internet...
your mama is so fat: everytime she wears a red dress, all the kids come running, screaming "KOOL-AID"
I think its funny when someone has balls and speaks up about somthing(Like Decanio) they are "nuts". No not nuts.... Just not a pussy like 99% of the population and gay bike racers that hide behind anon. screen names.
There need be no debate about whether Decanio is crazy. There is no doubt, he's a total nutter. If you have any doubt. Go to his website. He doped and then later came "clean". That's very nice. He says he wants to clean up cycling. Also, very nice. He went out and started a crazy website that accused everyone and their mother of doping and said he was going to take them all down. Not nice. Not helpful. Crazy military imagery and propaganda. Also, not helpful. If he really wanted to help, he'd find a way to provide a support structure to those who are doping, like he did, so they feel like they can get off the drugs. What he wants to do is shift blame for what he did away from himself and that's too bad.
I prefer David Millar's style. He got caught, immediately confessed, said that he and he alone was totally responsible for what he had done, and waited out his suspension. There's no manly way to cheat, but at least that's a manly way to get caught.
Hey Jared,
Decanio is Nucking Futz.
That will be all.
1) I wouldn't choose to do things the way Matt has done.
2) His cousin (not Matt) is a shit web designer and has built the 2005 equivalent of "Homer's most awesomest website ever".
3) Matt, like most cyclists (and eriksaunders.com readers), takes himself perhaps a tad too seriously.
That doesn't mean I can't appreciate what he's doing - stirring s%&t up. They're just aren't that many resources or loud voices out there championing his cause from his perspective. Unfortunately the "high-concept according to a 6th grader" website totally detracts from the message.
Oh, and if either of the Decanios are out there - get an f'ng book on web design. Not HTML for dummies, mind you. Try Krug's "Don't Make me ThinK" or some book from Peachpit, or "Not tacky 101" for god's sake! Your site sucks.
Oh, and while we're at it I think it should be said (because it hasn't here, really) that Matt is still a talented cyclist, but then Erik could probably speak more to that than me.
Maybe it was just the disc wheel...
you would like that tight pants wearing sissy... he broke down and cried like a baby i heard...
when you get caught you man up and take it... at the FIRST opportunity... not after an hour in the police station trying to deny it and then end up balling like a nancy boy... thats manly?...
You're right. It was not executed to perfection, but it's a lot more manly to cry over your shortcoming and mistakes than to blame someone else. (I always wonder what those deleted comments said. Where they rude, inflammatory, or just offensive?)
i randomly deleted them for fun.. and to make you wonder what they said...
men dont cry...
i called that... you are right.. they were dying to give it to medalist and they just needed ebough quality bids so that it looked good..
How is Decaino going to race next year. He's suspended. . . oh thats right, if USAC doesn't pardon his suspension he is going to sue them.
