(Equal opportunity and all...hey I am a different age (older than you guys!), different gender (F), and definitely a different level of the sport...given that I am a full on poser who rides around in the coolest gear possible and yet gets dropped by anyone who's trying to go fast, but at least I look sharp!)
And now I even live in the US version of Siberia so I think I hit all points here.

Herriott's "great." Biggest douche on the NYC scene tho' not untalented. A cpl teammates of mine accidentally availed themsleves of a "fitting" service he was offering for a time; needless to say, they both ended up going to genuinely good guy Craig Upton at a later date & rooting against Chimp Herriott whenever possible.
Among his very worst qualities are berating "amateurs" who don't ride HIS race the way HE wants 'em too (so only do pro-only events, prick) & the way casual racism/xenophobia that pops up on his site when he talks about NYC... it's cool to talk cultural smack as much as athletic or personal but he does NOT get that the beauty/genius/happy weirdness is wonderfully co-existant... He'd rather eat his bullshit powders & pills than Pakistani or Puerto Rican food, whatever. Dropping in on his site is bad habit, I know, but it's like the car wreck you can't not look at... one man's lopsided & overly confident head constantly blathering solipistic inanities.

I don't know why you have to "hate on" Herriott. His stuff is interesting to read every now and then.
I think that your apparent despise for his "casual racism/xenophobia" are only a testament of your own ineptitude and lack of openess at accepting people of various natures. You want him to tolerate Pakistani food and the like, but you don't want to tolerate him: I like the double standard you present and would gladly like to shake your hand.

Ron-- when you're an ofay in a largely latino & african-american 'hood, in a city wherein most of the best (i.e. non-rich white motherfucker, yuppie &/or chain store culture) and you bitch about most manifestations of their lives... the Todd Herriott's of the world get plenty-- too much, in many cases-- consideration. I respect him as an athlete but as a "New Yorker" & as a "pro"-- which I was-- for what that's worth or even just a dude who travels a lot, it's totally fuckin' jive. not to get ALL serious & shit but some degree of self-awareness of one's own very minor place/history goes a hell of a long way. There are great parallels here too to the supra-serious "PRO!!" dialogues we've had elsewhere. Todd has yet to get there yet-- maybe if comes in powder form?
