I think it works great. I wish my job work like the Usa cycling you get paid $150.000 a year. And don't accomplish S**t!!!! Usa cycling is run like Enron. They keep all the money and leave 0 Dollars for the riders. Erik, You don't have a chance you might fix something. Or get RICH! Just stick to riding around in circles . Slover
What's your post racing career plans? Gotta snag something good for a couple more years before you you retire and end up as the Winston Salem Home Depot plumbing specialist. There's no green in this sport. That's why you have former national champs working at the Gap (well, he does it for the pretty boy clothes discounts mostly).
No one is getting rich at USAC. Thats why its a collection of do-nothing beaurocrats who work <40 hours a week led by the "masterminds" of US cycling, Gerald and Och. There's about as much chance of improving things there as there is at the DMV.
But here's a question: Who in Newport Beach is throwing out big offers to US domestic pros and trying to suck people out of TIAA and Healthnet?
Erik - Anyone could put a contract together with happy numbers on it. But when it comes down to getting registered with the UCI and putting down the deposit, their needs to be some $$$$ behind the team.
No one can tell me who the sponsor is? So 5 guys are signed up w/ something that can look like Mercury before the season even starts?
i dont care about that team.. i am not on it and its not my business either...
if those guys are satisfied that the team will exist, then thats cool... i dont know the particulars...
you are right... they wont be on the road unless the finances are there and the bond is paid...
we'll see... it seems odd to me from what i have heard about the financing... its like a shares bases thing i guess.. but thats hearing it from guys who heard it from a guy...
but i am not in the team and i cant say... and i havent gotten a phone call...
Yeah I know the team is with Frankie and Henricus or Harm as he goes by in SoCal. I know someone who is going to ride for them and I also know someone who was approached to wrench. I hear they are being paid or offered salaries in advance. I still haven't heard who the sponsor is but like Erik said, I hear it is some type of shares deal. Of course the rumors have started flying and with Harm involved, I can understand why.
Saunders, how about a lucrative career as a visual artist?
get a los angeles art gallery to sponsor your riding, and make up some art project to go with it. those ambiguous hipster artstars will be all over it.
check out this painter- J*^n M*&^i, he's a former big wave world cup surfer from back in the 70's, turned painter. (a rad guy)
for a small fee, i'll hook you up with some curators! i'm sure that would be a lot more interesting than working in some cubicle at USAcyling...
j*&n m*&^i is not a rad guy. he's a self loving jerk that's really named john miller that makes a living selling paintings to unknown collectors in the far east through doug chrismas. i wouldn't wish him on my worst enemy.
run for your life. aside from that his work has been irrelevant for over 15 years. don't beleive his hype. trust me. also trust me that artists make less money than d-3 cyclists and have to teach to make ends meet. j*&n is nothing without his family cash and his skanky old porsche. spend enouhg time with him and you'll figure it out.
J*&n M*&^i was surfing big waves before parking lot criteriums even existed... i'm not sure who this dealer 'doug chrismas' is, but I do know that John was tight with stacy peralta and the rest of the dogtown crew, and his paintings are totally relevent!
At least j*&n is doing something meaningful with his life- whats Harm Jenson doing? (besides crashing out young riders in parking lot crits so he can make top five for 60 bucks... yay.)
oy vey. i've known j*&n for almost twenty years, so he's telling people he was a big wave rider? he used to tell folks he raced bikes too. he wasn't tight with the dogtowners (and everybody "knows" perelta).. that boy is his own best pr agent. he'll tellyou he was a famous film art director too. the only cool thing john did was work as a studio assistant to deibenkorn for a little while. that i give him props for.. everyhting else is an embellished yarn he tells his students so they will look up to him. and seriously he's not in the stitical dialougue....
look, go surf with him or bring him a skateboard and all this will be settled in ten seconds. too funny. n.
he'll also tell you that sharon stone stalked him,a nd that he's tight with the crips because they hang out in his studio. big wave surfer... he surfed w a guy name leonard during his high school years locally, he never competed and um.. there wasnt big wave surfing in los angeles in the 70's.
Lets talk more outside of the blog about M*&^i the painter and his gallery and his pr big wave antics. I have some strange ties to those people, and it sounds like you know the low-down...
I was reading back a few weeks ago and found this rant about J*&n M*&^i what does he have to do with cycling. I knew J*&n around 35 years ago use to surf with him a lot back in the day at malibu and let me tell you he ripped that place up backside with his friend Mike. I don't know anything about him being and artist now or whatever but I know he surfed his ass of back in the day.
I know M*&^i's paintings and think there pretty good. I also had him as a teacher and can say i learned a whole lot from the guy he knows his stuff and i never remember him talking shit about cycling or any of the stuff you all are talking about he was a very cool guy.
There sure is a lot of webpages with this M*&^%i dudes art on it he looks legit to me. How many things do you have online? Sounds like you got a bad case of bitter going on.
I know J*&n he an old friend and I can't say a bad thik about him. He may have a big ego but I'm sure that's what it takes to keep it going in the art game. Back to getting a Gallery to fund a cyclist sounds like a good idea does anyone know how to go about it? maybe we should ask J*&n.

i applied for a job at the USAC... would have been fun... except for the 30k pittance
okay, 30k's not really a pittance but it could be worse, and it's a far cry from 150k...

i hear things about that... they are pretty well set to go and have at least 5 riders already signed...
there is no shame in working a job.. there is no shame in working at the gap...

I hear some of the guys are getting part of next year's salary up front.
The team you guys are talking about is with Frankie Andreu & Henricus Jansen!!!!!!!

why would rumors fly with Harm Jansen involved?
wow, so whats the story on this far east dealer 'doug chrismas'?
i heard he tried to join the Hells Angels for some painting project but they kicked his ass...
What does this have to do with cycling.
