that guy is nutty... seems a bit like he is proposing this as a back door around into the whole issue of our deplyment in iraq and hypocrisy from politicians who support it and who are "pro-military", but i like him... and i agree that there should be a draft...
maybe the pentagon isnt so into a draft.. i hear that a lot... but i bet they would find something to do with those guys...
there should be some kind of mandatory national service... not neccesarily in the military (although that should be an option)... you could do police, or public works, or volunteer for a year or two full time with some group like habitat for humanity or something...
we would be better off...

mandatory military service...hazing. Hazing sucked in highschool, or for you closeted fratty's out there, it really was too bad that you had to drink all that booze; but nothing going to be more fun than being raped by some guy that can't spell his own name while your fellow soldiers either watch in horror, or hold you down.
I got an idea - go try the military, then re-evaluate. I did. It was a huge exersize in fucking off and wasting big money.

As long as the military industrial complex maintains significant pull in politics (which it will) there will never ever be a draft. The second you have a draft, you can only fight wars that are actually justified, and that aren't witch hunts. In vietnam, there were 93 reported fragging where soldiers tossed nades into commanding officer's tents. The only reason that doesn't happen in iraq is because it's a self-selected military population - volunteer.
As long as big companies want to make money off war there will NEVER be a draft, because a draft would mean less total war in the world.
so what if you just had to go sweep the streets clean or like clean up dog shit out of smitherses' yard?... that would be fine too... you guys are nutty on the military shit...
