good for the TOUR...

hey man... seriously... good for those guys at the tour to come out with the big F-U to everyone and say that they are going to do what it takes to run a clean race... wether or not the UCI will have anything to do with it...

ha...

check cyclingnews or velosnooze... everyone is so amped up... this is comical to me...

not that the ASO didnt turn a blind eye for decades.. but hey... you gotta start somewhere... and in my book, a self-important FUCK YOU ALL is a good place to start...

maybe they will actually do it.. maybe not... either way i am having a good laugh...

ASO members are clearly on dope.

Yeah, I don't think sponsors will leave unless they are retarded. If they are retarded and leave then, oh well.
Anything (almost) that can be done to clean up the sport is good.
"Don't be retarded!!"

whats the latest on the new US SUPERTEAM? have they folded already and are Andreu and Harm back to whatever?

whats the word?

Not having a title is probably the best thing that can happen to them. There are individuals responsible rather than a huge company.

I think most sponsors, like the general public, don't really care or even know that much about doping.
Cycling is rife with little squabbles and small-world tiffs. When I step back and take the global view I can't anticipate anything other than the usual status quo cum apathy.

US Pro team: its a bunch of rich guys each investing certain amounts of funding, then looking to sell the team to a main title sponsor in '07, and recoup their intial cost of '06: 1.25 million. Every rider has a stake and stock in the team, rumor has it, but I haven't heard if this is Class A stock, or non voting. Seriously.

A bunch of rich guys? You mean a bunch of dumb guys. The only people making money from cycling are Belgians. You are about as likely to get rich from pro cycling in the U.S as you are from running a bike shop. With the money they're throwing around, they better have more than $1.25m for the budget. Good luck selling a money loser in '07. Dumb.

How do you make 1.25 million dollars with a pro cycling in the US?

Well, you start with 10 million dollars and then you.....

it could happen... i can see it... maybe not in a year.. but i can see spinning quite a bit out of a bike team... in my time in the sport i have seen a lot of opportunities for income not capitalized on... sometimes because it just wasnt seen at the time and sometimes because there wasnt the manpower to do the work...

i think cycling is quite viable but it will take a lot of people to make it happen.. maybe this is the team to do something interesting...

you guys are so far away from corporate america that you dont know that for 2006 a company would rather spend $2m for a small sticker on a NASCAR than to sponsor a whole damn domestic cycling team.

the sport is quickly being associated with dope and yesterdays news thanks to LA. the golden goose is cooked. no one is writing checks. EXCEPT AMGEN. hahahahahahahaha

here is what i think people dont understand about sports marketing and NASCAR in specific...

companies arent buying logo advertising when they pay big money for a tiny logo on a car... they are buying access...

they are becoming partners with NASCAR.. and the teams and the other sponsors of the league and the cars... they are buying access to NASCAR and its business partners.. they are paying up to be members of huge web of companies becuase they can then network and use these relationships to make more money...

its not about logo placement.. its about access...

now... when you sponsor a bike team... what are you getting?... what do you have the right to access?... how have you expanded you network?... for some companies its cheap and effective to be in bike racing... for some companies it makes no sense given what else is out there... for some companies its got potential to provide them with the access they are seeking... its a little risky, but its cheap enough that its worth it...

what does the governing body do to create a network of companies and business people and fans to which others would want access?... thats how the sport grows...

refering only to the unrecognizable tiny logos that still cost more than what you would need to have the top team in the US...
